Who is Davido?

David Adeleke popularly known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 21st 1992 and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He focuses on Afro-pop, Afro-beats, R&B, Reggae, pop and electro-pop genres. As of 2019, his net worth was estimated to be $16 million.

How did Davido start his music career?

He was on course to be a business administration graduate, but dropped out of Oakwood University in the United States and relocated to Nigeria where he made his music debut. His first song ‘Dami Duro' was released in 2011 and did fairly well. At the time, he had issues with his family, specifically his father who wanted him to return to school and complete his university education.

He, however, decided to follow his gut and focused on being a professional musician. Seeing the determination his son had in art, his father decided to support him fully. He dropped his second song dubbed ‘Omo Baba Olowo' paying homage to his dad for rallying behind him.
The family set up a studio for him and helped nurture his career. The investment paid off as Davido blew up between 2013 and 2015 thanks to his chart-topping hits that included; ‘Skelewu’, ‘Gobe', ‘One of a kind', Aye' and ‘The Money' featuring Olamide.

Ever since, he has been on an upward trajectory, dropping one hit after the other and working with other artists to grow the Naija music scene. In 2016, he launched his label dubbed Davido Music Worldwide (DMW)and signed Mayorkun and Dremo.
