Who is Alikiba?

Alikiba is an award-winning singer, songwriter, and performer from Tanzania. Widely regarded as one of the greatest cultural icons in Tanzania, Alikiba was born in November 1986 in Kigoma, Tanzania, and grew up in Dar es Salaam. Known for his vocal prowess and songwriting skills, he has created hit songs like Cinderella, Aje, and Bwana Mdogo. From the start of his career, Alikiba established himself as a dedicated Bongo Flava artist, rarely venturing into other genres.

Alikiba’s Breakthrough and Journey

Alikiba started singing at the age of 7 but began writing his own songs at 14. He launched his professional music career in 2005 and released his first song, Maria. In 2007, he debuted his single Cinderella, which became a massive hit, making him a household name. The Cinderella album and its lead single topped charts not only in Tanzania but also in Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Rwanda. Over a decade later, Cinderella is still considered one of the best Bongo Flava albums.

In 2009, Alikiba released his sophomore album Ali K For Real, which became one of the year’s top-selling albums with hits like Usiniseme and Nakshi Mrembo. These tracks became national sensations. In 2010, he participated in the One8 project alongside American artist R. Kelly on the song Hands Across the World.

After releasing his second album, Alikiba took a 4-to-5-year hiatus, during which he occasionally featured on projects by artists like Ommy Dimpoz and Lady Jaydee.

Alikiba’s Comeback

Fans rallied to bring Alikiba back to the music industry during his hiatus. In 2014, he signed with Rockstar 4000 and made a comeback with Mwana, a track that was warmly received by fans. During his time with Rockstar 4000, he released several hit songs, including Aje, Chekecha, Seduce Me, and Lupela. His resurgence also fueled rumors of a rivalry with Diamond Platnumz.

In 2018, Alikiba left Rockstar 4000 and founded his label, Kings Music, signing artists such as his younger brother Abdu Kiba, K2ga, Killy, and Cheed. While Killy and Cheed have since departed to join Harmonize’s Konde Gang, Kings Music remains a significant force in the Tanzanian music scene.

In October 2021, Alikiba released his third album, Only One King, which broke records in Tanzania and the entire East African region.
