Muhammadu Buhari Confers Davido OON Award

Outgoing Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari conferred the Order of the Niger (OON) award on Naija’s king of Afrobeats Davido.

This is as he packs up ready to exit office for Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was elected in March 2023 as the next Nigerian president. Buhari hand over the reins to power to Tinubu on May 29. Davido shared a photo of the list of winners on his Instagram account to mark the occasion of his conferral.

The ‘Fall’ singer is the latest musician to receive this award joining other Afrobeats icons such as Teni, Wasiu Ayinde, and Burna Boy. The Order of the Niger (OON) award is a high honour given to distinguished artists who have made significant contributions to the development of the country through music.

This award comes after the release of his fourth album ‘Timeless’, a 17-track album welcoming him back to the scene after two years of no album release. Davido encapsulate beautiful life memories in this album which his fans welcomingly received worldwide.

He said that he always had this album ready but had to rework it in 2022 and decided to release it in 2023 – after marrying Chioma. Davido retained his musical charm throughout this album but sampled different sounds among them Amapiano.
