Manchester City begin their title defence in the 2022-2023 season when they travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United in the final fixture of the opening weekend.

David Moyes' side will be buoyed by their progression towards the top end of the table in recent seasons, a semi final appearance in the Europa League and a seventh placed finish. They will now look to continue that progression in the new season when they host the champions.

Manchester City managed to improve on their performances to finish at the table's summit,as they dropped points in just one of their final seven matches - though that was at West Ham's London Stadium.

Aymeric Laporte isn't expected to return from knee surgery until September at the earliest. Only two players made more Premier League starts for City than the Spain international last season and they got off to a losing start in the Community Shield in his absence.

Moyes may have to line up without his two £30m-plus arrivals. Centre-back Nayef Aguerd was forced into surgery on his ankle during preseason and the towering striker Gianluca Scamacca isn't quite up to full match fitness following his arrival from Serie A.
