The moment African football fanatics have been waiting for is here, as the African Cup of Nations has kicked off in a spectacular opening ceremony with the first match being between this year’s host, Ivory Coast versus Guinea Bissau. The opening ceremony was highly anticipated as all roads led to the Alassane Ouattara stadium, to witness the first match of Group A. A total of 24 teams divided in 6 groups are expected to participate in 52 matches, that are scheduled to run from the 13th of January to the final match being played on the 11th of February. Mohammed Salah from Egypt, Victor Osimhen from Nigeria and Acharf Hakimi From Morocco are some of the big stars that will be representing their countries this year. Senegal are the current defending champions of the 2019 tournament while Egypt has the highest number of wins since the cups history standing at 7 followed by Cameroon with 5 wins. This is the 34th edition of AFCON since it’s first ever tournament held in 1957 and we can’t wait to witness the packed action and the thrill of it all.
