The Blues are still waiting to conduct their first piece of business in the transfer window this summer, though plenty of work appears to be happening behind the scenes. Director Marina Granovskaia has left as part of the Chelsea board reshuffle as new owner Todd Boehly will step in as interim sporting director for the rest of this transfer window before a new one is appointed.

Atletico Madrid's Andrea Berta alongside the likes of former Liverpool director Michael Edwards have already been linked to the vacant position but there won't be an appointment in this regard anytime soon with all focus solely on this £200million squad rebuild that Boehly has promised manager Thomas Tuchel. When it comes to the squad itself, reports claim there could be more departures before there are arrivals. The Athletic have reported that Romelu Lukaku is close to rejoining Inter Milan on loan just one-year after he made the club-record move back to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have decided that they will sign a Premier League-proven central defender to partner main transfer priority Jules Kounde in the defence for 2022/23, according to reports, as Josko Gvardiol and Kalidou Koulibaly amongst others learn their fate.

Of course, the Blues still have a battle on their hands for Kounde with Barcelona also hoping to sign the French international in spite of their financial woes. However, it is understood that Chelsea are still the overwhelming favourites to land the 23-year-old with more progression on the deal expected in the next week, if the latest reports in the European media are to be believed.
