Who is Wizkid?
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, is a multi-award-winning Nigerian singer who has risen to become one of the most sought-after international artists. Born and raised in Lagos, Wizkid started pursuing his passion for music at an early age. At the age of 11, the singer had recorded an album as a member of a church band dubbed the Glorious Five.
The band, however, broke up leaving Wizkid as a solo artist. In 2010, The self-proclaimed Starboy started releasing songs from his debut album called ‘Superstar’. The first song off 'Superstar' was ‘Holla At Your Boy’. The song earned huge success for Wizkid and won various awards including; Channel O Music Video Awards (Most Gifted Newcomer Video) and The Headies 2011 (Next Rated Award).In 2012, the artist decorated news headlines over the many endorsement and ambassadorial deals that he attracted after the success of his debut project.
In 2013, Wizkid released his second album titled ‘Ayo’. The project which housed songs such as 'Jaiye Jaiye' and 'On Top Your Matter', featured top artists including Femi Kuti, Akon, Banky W, and Phyno among others. It propelled Wizkid’s name to appear on top news platforms and charts, earning him opportunities to perform at several high-profile concerts. Examples of such concerts were; 2013's edition of Felabration, 2013’s Guinness Colorful World of More concert, and 2013’s Guinness Big Eruption Concert among others.
After the release of ‘Ayo’, Wizkid went international in his subsequent music projects and worked with top stars like Drake and Chris Brown. The Nigerian star featured vocals from Drake in the remix of his single ‘Ojuelegba’. He also collaborated with Chris Brown on ‘African Bad Gyal’. The singer started gracing international concerts and upgrading his status in the African music industry.
In 2017, Wizkid released his third studio album dubbed ‘Sounds from the Other Side’. The album featured international artists like Drake, Major Lazer, Trey Songz, and Chris Brown among others. In 2020, the youngster released his fourth studio album named ‘Made In Lagos’. The album went viral and earned him huge respect on the global scale as an African artist. He currently has a total of four albums.

He has also participated in award-winning international music projects such as the ‘Checklist’ song from Normani and Calvin Harris’ joint EP. He also took part in Beyonce's 'Brown Skin Girl' which won multiple awards. Aside from his achievements, he has also been recognized and awarded in various galas for his contribution to the music industry.
