ABOUT KOREDE BELLO

Korede Bello, a young Nigerian artist has a special way of making you listen to Naija music. He is a rare breed of talent who at only 26, has a unique history in Nigeria’s music industry. His songs have a thrilling appeal you can’t help but appreciate. Here is his biography. The singer traces Lagos as his birthplace on 29 February 1996. He schooled here together with his elder brother and younger sister and loved every bit of it.

Information dissemination and the perceived glitz of working in the media industry saw him pursue a diploma in Mass Communication at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. Nonetheless, it was one dream in his career that he fulfilled and making music in a different way was his all-time goal. The ‘Mi Casa Su
Casa’ hitmaker offers that his family’s religious nature inculcated a love for gospel music.

His parents had a deep love for music and listened to two distinctly different genres. As a result, a then young Korede Bello got exposure to different genres. His father preferred native African music while his mother preferred foreign music. With these preferences, his love for songwriting grew deeper but it never changed his status as a devout Christian, courtesy of his parents. He loved gospel hits and would listen to different artists. It eventually influenced his future career.

Post his success in the industry, his parents observe that their son had a musical bent from the age of four. His father bought him a guitar and enrolled him on a part-time music school in the neighbourhood. At the age of 7, Korede was composing music with the encouragement of his family. He visited the studio frequently but it wasn’t easy because schoolwork needed his attention too despite having a band in school where he played with a few of his friends.
While doing both, Korede Bello kept going with his musical dream. He gained courage and made his first stage performance under the alias "African Prince" with his single "Forever." People could not believe how gifted he was and this made him a darling in Lagos. As a teen, he admits that legendary artists in Nigeria 2face Idibia and Asa became his icons. He felt it deep that he would become a superstar. And he was right because the legendary Mavin Record boss Don Jazzy was on his lookout.

Jazzy, a famous music producer chanced on his first recording "Forever," which he did as an adolescent. The record label boss loved the harmony of his lyrics and instrument which marked the new dawn. He signed him in February 2014 and his first hit song was ‘Godwin’. It ranked so well just like ‘African Princess, one of the first two mega tunes.

It is while at Mavin Records that Korede Bello that he introduced a new style to his tunes. He worked on the delivery of an engaging synthesis of gospel-inspired melodies and pop music which is unique. The lyrics deeply sync with every new production he puts out. A perfect example is the award-winning "Dorobucci” hit which was a collaborative affair with the Don Jazzy-affiliated label. It marked his official sophomore release at the label and it won an award the same year for being the best pop single In Headies Awards.

In 2015, life changed for the better for Korede Bello courtesy of ‘Godwin. He provided the lyrics to the song while the label handled the production, and lead vocals. Don Jazzy provided background vocals to the song that surpassed his expectation. It won multiple awards and laid a foundation for his first album ‘Belloved’
