Onyeka Onwenu was born on January 31, 1952. She is a multifaceted talent known for her music, acting and activism. She began her music career in the 1980s while still working at NTA, and is known for her unique blend of highlife, jazz and traditional African music styles. In 1984 Onwenu wrote and presented the internationally acclaimed BBC/NTA documentary, Nigeria: a squandering of riches. She originally started as a secular artist but later moved on to gospel music.
