This year we kick off Labor Day with a splash of color by giving you a glimpse into the ins and outs of white collar corporate workers, hands on blue collar heroes, red-collar lifesavers, yellow-collar sunshine spreaders, and gold-collar visionaries. Each hue tells a tale and we’re here to shine a spotlight and celebrate them for the role they play in this Labor Day Job Collar series. Starting us off is the White Collar category mostly associated with the professional office setting. The term white collar emerged during the early 20th century stemming from the prevalent attire of individuals, who typically wore white shirts indicative of their professional stature. White-collar jobs denote occupations characterized by intellectual, managerial, or administrative functions, often requiring specialized education or training. Examples encompass a diverse spectrum including, people in Finance, Human Resources, Insurance and most recently Software developers among others. In essence, white-collar employment underscores a commitment to intellectual prowess, strategic acumen, and organizational proficiency. Fun fact about white collar jobs is the origin of Casual Fridays which were popularized by the tech industry as a way to bridge the gap between the typically formal attire of white-collar workers and the more relaxed dress codes of their blue-collar counterparts.
