Wizkid Talks about Inspiration behind ‘Made In Lagos’ Album, Refers To Women as ‘God in Human Form’

Nigerian singer and songwriter Wizkid has opened up about the inspiration behind his most recent studio album dubbed ‘Made In Lagos’ that he released towards the end of October 2020.

Wizkid , one of the Africa’s biggest artists and the most decorated Nigeria artiste ever released the 15-track album, his fourth, on October 30, 2020 which features guest appearances from British artists Skepta and Ella Mai, American R&B singer H.E.R, Jamaican artists Projexx and Damian Marley and Nigerian artists Burna Boy, Tems, Tay Iwar and Terri.

The sound in the album has been described as mellow and chilled, unlike what has always been associated with the 30-year-old singer ranked as the most revolutionary Afro-pop artist of the modern era .

In a recent interview on Red Radio, Wizkid said the ‘Made In Lagos’ album sound was inspired by Covid-19 pandemic.

“When I make music, it is almost like painting a picture. I see my music as painting a mood for the people to feel and with Covid-19, I felt important to have this kind of music – everything different from the clubs,” said Wizkid in part of an interview shared on Twitter by Red Radio.

“Before Covid-19, people were chilling out in clubs, but with Covid, it’s all indoors, with family, loved ones and at home,” he added.

The album has been received positively across the globe and managed to hit a record 100 million streams across five platforms - nine days after release.

Some of the popular tracks off the album include lead singles ‘Smile’ featuring H.E.R and ‘No Stress’ as well as ‘Ginger’ in which he collaborated with Burna Boy.

And as the world approaches celebration World Women Day, usually marked annually on March 8, Wizkid was asked to leave a message to all the women and he said; “I have always said and will say today that women are like god in human form.”

“We do appreciate you, we appreciate your existence. You’re beautiful women,” he added.
