Samini is an Accra-based dancehall artist born on December 22, 1981. Before taking on music which necessitated him to pick a stage name, the world knew him as Emmanuel Andrews Samini.

What was the educational background of Samini?

He is a native of Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana but schooled in Accra. For four years, St. Margaret Mary's Senior High School shaped his academic dream and booked him a slot at the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) in Accra, Here, where the ‘My Own’ singer pursued a degree in Business Administration.

When Did Samini Start His Music Career?

Growing up in a Christian family pushed him deep into a proactive role in his local church choir in his teenage years. It gave him the conviction of pursuing an illustrious music career despite his business background.

When did Samini release his first song?

Together with several other like-minded friends, Samini started a hiplife music group named ""Lyrical Gunshot"" in the late 1990s, which marked the beginning of his musical career. After releasing a few singles, the group split up which pushed him to start a solo career under the stage name ""Batman.""
In 2004, he released his debut album ‘Dankwasere’ and it went viral due to his unique sound. Highlife was at the time a reigning genre and the introduction of dancehall hyped up an imminent genre change in Ghana. This album won him double awards at the Ghana Music Awards, including ‘Reggae Song of the Year’. ‘Linda’ off this album unlocked his musical fortunes that he collaborated with international dancehall artists like Sean Paul, Kevin Little, Bennie Man, Chaka Demus & Pliers, and Shaggy.
Samini stamped his musical prowess in subsequent albums which made him a force to reckon with in dancehall. He is renowned for his diverse musical taste, which incorporates elements of highlife, dancehall, reggae, and afrobeat.
The 42-year-old’s music incorporates infectious and well-curated melodies and entrancing rhythms inspired by social and political concerns. His energising performances and electrifying stage presence have won him a devoted following both in Ghana and abroad. It has also won him multiple collaborations with big international artists such as JayZ, and Akon, Busy Signal among others. Closer home, he has worked with Wizkid.
