"The defending 2021 AFCON champions, Senegal, got to play their first match against Gambia on 15th of January thrilling fans with their skills after scoring their first goal in less than four minutes. Lamine Camara scored the other two goals, thrilling the spectators with an impressive goal that just might be the goal of the tournament, shot inside the right top corner from around 20 meters. The Gambia tried their best but unfortunately the game ended at 3 nil with Gambia getting the first red card of the tournament.Cameroon and Guinea were up next for the Group C teams. Guinea started on a high note with a score from Mohamed Bayo 10 minutes into the game. The intense match proceeded as Cameroon fought hard to prove themselves managing to score in the second half of the game. Francois Kamano from the Cameroon team was given a red card making it the second red card for the tournament. Cameroon and Guinea finished the game on a draw score of one one.
Angola and Algeria ushered in the group D teams being the last match of the day. As previous winners of the 1990 and 2019 cups, Algeria started off on a roll eager to proceed to the next level. The first goal was scored by Baghdad Bounedjah in the first half period. Angola resiliently put up a fight scoring a penalty goal by Mabululu in the second half. The game ended on a draw score of 1.
