KENYA: Coast Rap Legend Quits Music to Run For a Political Seat

What’s with musicians and quitting music this year? A lot of big names in the music industry have announced their retirement from music this year.

First there was Ringtone who said he was quitting music because he felt his message wasn’t really getting across.

And then there was Bahati whose announcement comes as the biggest shock to many in the industry and his fans.

And now one of the Mombasa’s biggest hiphop/rap sensations, Cannibal, has just announced his intention of joining politics which surely means he is putting his musical career aside.

Well can we really blame him? If there’s anything we’ve learned in the past few weeks is that music doesn’t pay in this country. But if there’s one thing that will help you mint a lot of money in this country, is politics.

Cannibal announced that he would be running for the post of MCA of Kiembeni Ward under the flag of ODM in perhaps one of the most interesting political posters we’ve ever seen in this country/
