About Liverpool
When and How was Liverpool Founded?
Liverpool Football Club has been associated with fame and achievement since its inception in 1892. Liverpool is the most successful British club of all time on the international league stage, having won numerous European trophies.
Since its inception in1892, Liverpool joined the Football League the following year and has played at Anfield ever since. When Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley led Liverpool to 11 League titles and seven European medals in the 1970s and 1980s, the club established itself as a significant force in English and European football. Liverpool won the European Cup for the sixth time in 2005, under the direction of Rafael Benitez and captained by Steven Gerrard.
In 1964, the squad switched from red shirts and white shorts to an all-red home uniform, which they have worn ever since. "You'll Never Walk Alone" is the club's anthem.
Following a dispute between the Everton committee and John Houlding, the club president and landowner at Anfield, Liverpool F.C. was formed. Everton moved to Goodison Park in 1892 after eight years in the stadium, and Houlding created Liverpool F.C. to play at Anfield.
The club was originally known as "Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd" (Everton Athletic for short), but in March 1892, it changed its name to Liverpool F.C. and received official registration three months later, when The Football Association refused to recognize the team as Everton.
The team won the Lancashire League in its first season and was promoted to the Football League Second Division in 1893-94. The club was promoted to the First Division by finishing first, which it won in 1901 and also in 1906.
