KENYA: Mombasa Based Rapper Cannibal Responds to Rumors He Was Quitting Music For Politics
2 February 2016
Last week, Mombasa based rapper Cannibal officially announced his intentions of running for a political seat for Mombasa’s Kiembeni ward. After that it was highly thought that he would be putting aside his musical career for his political one.
However the rapper has cleared the air on the matter saying that he will not be quitting music even if he is elected a Member of the County Assembly come next year.
Speaking to the Star’s Word Is, the ‘Kichwa Kibov’ rapper said that his intention of running for the seat is to champion youth issues.
“I have always supported my fellow youth and they are the ones who have pushed me to vie for the MCA seat, so that I can further champion their agenda. In Kiembeni, many young people have resorted to crime because there are no jobs and the people mandated to represent them in elective posts are literally sleeping on their job. Those are some of the challenges that I will focus on if Kiembeni people elect me,” he said.
He continues to say that despite his political responsibilities, he will not quit music and will instead be even more vocal than he was in the past.
