Mampi's life dramatically changed. As a result, she had to give up her education and became homeless at times. When she was going through a bad patch in her life, she says that she was helped by prayer and the kindness of a friend's sister.

It was after these tragedies hit that her passion for music came out strongly. It was the only thing that kept her sane. Thus, she used music to deal with the pain of losing her family.

In 2003, Mampi was discovered by a music producer and signed to a record deal following the death of her brother and father. ‘Maloza’, her debut album, was released in 2005. She got better in her trade and composed her second album ‘Chimo ni Chimo’ and released it in 2007.

Mampi's most famous song remains to be ‘Walilowelela’. She released the song in 2013 before its cover was done by Portuguese artist Luyanna in 2015. Mampi sings certain lines in Bemba and Nyanja while Luyanna sings other lines in Portuguese.

The music video for the song was greatly influenced by African culture. She later released another studio album ‘Nyula Yako’ in December 2017. A music video accompanies the dance hall-inspired song.
