How did Master KG begin his music career?

Master KG's musical interests trace back to age 13. He developed a deep liking for music and took a step in mixing beats using a computer that his late uncle had bought for him. He was at the time living in Calais Village, Limpopo. A few years later, he connected with DJ Maebela and started experimenting with music software as a budding record producer.

He did all this at FL Studios in 2016 and eventually released his first song titled ‘Situation’ in 2017. He was also working on his debut album ‘Skeleton’ which he released in 2018 under Open Mic Productions; which was his first label to sign with. 

‘Skeleton’ did wonders for his music career as it opened bigger doors and a wider fan base. He featured great artists like Zanda Zakuza, Makhadzi, Team Mosha among many other big names in the industry. In ‘Skeleton’, he sold his Khelobedu singing style – a native language spoken by Lobedu People and it appealed to many.

Master KG was christened king of ‘Bolobedu’ dance which is popular among the Lobedu People. His track ‘Skeleton Move’ became a hit song and was even voted as Thobela FM’s song of the year pitting it against another hit song ‘Malwadhe’ by King Monada.

In December 2019, Master KG became an international sensation following the release of his song ‘Jerusalema’. It is the most successful song that he has done so far. ‘In Jerusalema’, featured Nomcebo Zikode and by early 2020, it was being played by major stations across Africa. Master KG later did a remix of ‘Jerusalema’ with Nigeria’s Burna Boy and it was also a success.

‘Jerusalema’ earned him international awards such as MTV Europe Music Awards. He also got an opportunity to sign a recording deal with Elektra France.
