Kumi Guitar, commonly known by his birth name as Nana Yaw Kumi declares that Highlife will be his genre as long as his music career is concerned and that he will never depart from it
He is among the very few musicians in Ghana who have maintained Highlife over the past years with back-to-back hits mostly with the arrival of other foreign genres.

The Ghanaian Highlife musician was poised in continuing the legacy of Highlife made by some legends in the previous years and revealed Highlife music defines who he is as an artiste from Ghana particularly when he had a chance to perform in other countries.
‘’As a young artiste I had a choice of doing other genres but I choose Highlife because I see myself as a generational thinker so I'm not perturbed about how much more money I would make in doing other genres.

“There are talks about how Ghana would win a Grammy award but it would be difficult to do it with other foreign genres but Highlife music has huge potential of winning Ghana a Grammy award in the near future,'' he said.
Kumi Guitar added that he will keep on putting emphasizing the story of Highlife using his songs in his bid to market the genre to the outside music markets.
