The 2021 MAMA Awards nominations has raised a huge debate on social media among Ugandans especially Hip-hop musicians after they failed to make the cut.

While many believe that Ugandan Hip-hop musicians ought to have been nominated, veteran G.N.L Zamba is of the opinion that the current rappers are not doing enough to catch the attention of the global audience and receive nominations.

"First ask the people we left behind as to why they abandoned Hip-hop to lag behind because I thought I had left the crown to another generation that would come up and pick the spear and put us on the map. But somehow we haven't reached the goals we wanted and honestly speaking in terms of material we have released, the albums are not crossing boarders like the way Nigerians are doing," he told Spark TV.

He further noted that it would be better if Ugandans organized their own awards as the Hip-hop generation.

"We are the second youngest generation in this whole world so we can't let it be ruled by foreign people. We need our very own and when I see these young people coming up, I see so much talent but it needs marketing something that Nigerians and South Africans have," he said.
