Afro pop artist Keemlyf released his 7 track EP dubbed I am Khim in October . Keemlyf's EP has a total duration of approximately 20 minutes and 50 seconds. This EP highlights Keemlyf's Afro-fusion sound bringing the genre within the East Africa music scene. Here’s the breakdown of the EP: 

 

  1. Sativa

Sativa is the first track off I am Khim. It runs for 2 minutes 57 seconds . Keemlyf blends his unique sound of English and Swahili in the song . He incorporates the popular phrase “Mambo ni mengi , masaa ni machache.’’ 

Sativa starts with whistles accompanied by Keemlyf's in the background. Sativa explores themes of relaxation, desire, and the carefree vibe . It gives the ultimate party feeling with unwinding.

  1. Khim

Khim is the second track and it serves as title track of the entire EP. The K stands for Keemlyf and him for the pronoun he. This title track serves as an anthem of self-expression and identity. The lyrics ‘Kina nani wanatesa Nairobi ,Si ndo mbogi tunatesa Nairobi …” 

Keemlyf demonstrates his dominance in the game. At the intro Keemlyf introduces himself with pride saying “Khimmie boy killer.’’ The song has a confident tone, symbolizing his resilience and authenticity in the music industry. Khim has an official lyric visualizer out. 

  1. Get Down feat. Boutross

This collaboration with Boutross brings an upbeat party vibe. The feel good song has lyrics encouraging the audience to let loose and enjoy the vibe . The track mixes Afro Sounds with Nairobi's urban sound. The simple chorus “baby get down..”makes it easy to repeat and dance along. Boutross’ signature rap style complements Keemlyf’s melodic flow.

  1. Carry Me

Carry Me sees Keemlyf express his vulnerability and longing for a deep connection. It speaks of trust and love, requesting a partner to support and elevate him emotionally. The chorus ‘would you be my love ‘ gives the ultimate love feeling. 

 

  1. Medicine

Medicine is a metaphor of healing to describe a love that is restorative and essential. Keemlyf compares his partner’s presence to a remedy for his struggles. He emphasizes love as medicine .

5 . Angelina

Angelina is a playful and flirtatious track to a captivating love interest. The song describes her charm and the magnetic pull she has on the singer. Keemlyf showcases his waiting on his love with the line “Anticipating don't keep me waiting .’ 

 

  1. Hawk Tuah 

Hawk Tuah is an Afropop deluxe and the closing track on the EP. It combines Afrobeat with trap influence. The fusion highlights Keemlyf’s versatility. The lyrics reflect ambition, resilience, and striving for greatness. 

 

I am Khim is the 3rd Studio EP from Keemlyf. Keemlyf worked with a couple of producers to make the EP successful including Official Dynmelow , Lamaj who produced Carry Me and Lil Eskimo who produced Hawk Tuah. The cover art of I am Khim was curated by creative director Papi Visuals.
