KENYA: 10 Years Later After Mysterious Disappearance Czar's Father Still Believe He's Alive
15 March 2016
10 years after the fast rising talent Abdulkarim Mohammed also known as Czars' disappeared, the same question still haunts his family, ‘where is Czars?’.
He recorded his hit record Amka Ukatike back in 2005 under Calif Records with producer Clemo. A song that saw him dominate headlines all over the country and won him accolades at the Chaguo la Teeniez and Fanta Pure Fresh Oxygen Talent Search.
Czars who would have been celebrating his 27th birthday this year on February 5, was set to sit for his Form Four examination at the Kilindini Secondary School before his disappearance which at the time sparked rumors that he had ran away from the do or die exams.
A few weeks later more rumors that he had been spotted in Easleigh, Nairobi emerged but his father’s efforts to locate him in the area bore no fruits.
For Mr Makasi (his dad) the search for his son has taken him from Police Station to Police Station, to hospitals and even across borders and has taken a toll on the family.
Reports in 2010 have it that The Criminal Investigations Department seemed to have put the case on hold, according to his father.
“Wherever he is I want him to know that he is our son and we love him very much. My only hope and prayer is that he comes back home someday as his room is still empty without him,” he says.
“The police are not any different. The showbiz industry, where Czars actively participated, is also quiet. Radio stations are no longer playing his music and TV stations do not air his videos anymore.
“No musician is willing to talk about Czars, neither are producers and even event organizers. To top it all, The Insyder magazine, the organizers of Pure Oxygen Jam, the event that discovered Czars, have remained mum on the matter.
“I cannot say for sure that he has completely disappeared never to be found but one question I keep asking myself each day is his whereabouts and what is he up to.”
Mr Makasi who also played the role of Czars' manager and fashion designer revealed they had a close relationship and enjoyed taking long walks along the beach with his son.
“He was not only my close friend but my advisor as well,” reveals his father.
“We have never removed anything from his room, in fact, we have made it look better,” says Makasi. They both want their son to know that he’s not a criminal, he never did anything wrong, he should just come back home or just call to say that he’s alive and that is what counts.
“When he comes, he can decide where he wants to live. We just want to know that he’s well. All my property have been registered under his name so far and I have bought a car for him to use when he comes back. He just needs to know that his family still loves him and is willing to support him fully,” says Makasi.
He continues to hold on hope that someday his son will return and talks to people who come to his Makasi Fashions Creations shop on Mombasa’s Meru Road hoping for some information.
