Award-winning Zambian Hip-hop star Slap Dee, a KMP musician and the founder of XYZ, recalls that when he initially started out, money was his biggest problem. He revealed that he hadn't received meaningful money until 2012.

He was simply going through the motions of his job as an actor. As far as the rapper was concerned, money wasn't the only factor in his decision to pursue a career in music.

Speaking during an interview with That Zed Podcast, Slap Dee said that after three to four albums, he started earning real money. What is encouraging is that he never gave up and kept doing music because passion was enough for him.

His initial deal was about K2000. For his first big deal, MTN Zambia provided him enough money to buy a Toyota Runx for his hit song, ‘Kuichaila’.

Addressing claims that he snubbed a fan, the ‘Midnight in Matero’ hit maker said that all this was false. On the material day, he was having a studio session when his aunt called him and informed him that his son had fallen ill.

He explained that after receiving the news, he dropped everything and headed towards his car where a fan greeted him and he nodded back in response since he was on phone.

However, the narrative changed hours later and he became a target for trolls on Twitter. He also quashed the notion that he is arrogant. He says people mistake his firmness – stemming from his past suffering – and view it as pride and arrogance.
