4 Major Hip-Hop Beefs That Hit South Africa in 2021

Beats and bars are as necessary to hip-hop just as musical rivalry is. Even though it can be violent and unpleasant at times, it is an essential part of hip-hop culture. Disagreements amongst musicians are usually resolved amicably, and the group reassembles with a newfound respect for one another.

Mzansi hip-hop has witnessed a number of beefs over the past decade as a means of gaining recognition. 2021 saw its fair share of rap game feuds. Below are some of the beefs that rocked South African Hip-hop in 2021:
Nota and Stogie T
Nota Baloyi and Stogie T got into a scuffle at party. For his side of the story, Nota took to Instagram, posting a video of himself explaining how the fight started. He claimed to have pinned Stoogie T to the ground but did not hurt him. However, Stogie says Nota started the beef. The scuffle led to a beef that proceeded for the better part of the year, with each of them hitting out at the other.
AKA and Cassper Nyovest
The long running musical beef between Mzansi star artists Cassper Nyovest and rapper AKA is an ugly one. Both artists fought for the top position in the hip hop industry for years until Cassper made a surprising move to Amapaiano. But, this is not enough for their fans to forget the beef between them. AKA keeps throwing shades at Cassper for ditching Amapiano.

MashBeatz and A-Reece
Early last year, it was reported that MashBeatz and A-Reece, were at odds. As a hip-hop duo, they were always considered one of the best. Many of Reece's Twitter and Instagram followers interpreted MashBeatz's un-following of A-Reece as a show of animosity. Most hip hop fans were quick to criticize the choice, feeling that while Reece's career would certainly survive such a breakup. Initially, there were concerns that MashBeatz would not succeed on its own. A-Reece and his brother Jay Jody recently released a collaborative album that MashBeatz labeled "crap," Reece immediately began clamoring for his blood.
Blxckie and Lucasraps
According to reports, the two Durban-based rappers had a disagreement and un-followed each other on social media. No one knows for sure why the two teenage artists decided to break off their friendship. Blxckie and Lucasraps were considered to be a powerful duo that would have taken the music industry to new heights in Mzansi. ‘Big Time Sh'lappa’ was a smash hit in South Africa after it was released by the two.
