5 Ugandan Artists that Won Prestigious Awards in 2021

2021 has been a tough year for most Ugandan musicians due to the lockdown of the entertainment industry. However, amidst the lockdown, some artists still managed to release great songs that received prestigious awards locally and abroad. In this article, we review Ugandan artists that won prestigious awards in 2021:

Eddy Kenzo

The Big Talent boss is a celebrated multi-award winning artist. He has won several local and international awards. Eddy Kenzo is arguably the most decorated Ugandan musicians thanks to the many awards he won.  His most recent win came when he was crowned AFRIMA’s Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa beating top artists like Diamond Platnumz, Sauti Sol, Ali Kiba and Harmonize among others.

Before that, he had won awards like best Afrobeat Music at the Caribbean Afro Music Awards (CAMA), Global Male Act of the Year at the Global Music Awards Africa held in Ghana, Zzina Awards, and Best International Male Artist of Africa by the Hollywood and African Prestigious Award (HAPA) among others.

Levixone
He is arguable the biggest award-winning Ugandan gospel artist right at the moment. Levixone has won numerous awards including; Global Gospel song of the year in Ghana's Global Music Awards Africa, East and South African region Outstanding Music Minister award at Maranatha Awards in the United States of America (USA), Best African Act of Year at the 2021 VET Awards,  Best Male Gospel artist (East Africa) in the Rhema East African Awards , 2 Janzi awards and 5 from the Royal Gospel Music Awards.

Spice Diana
Spice Diana is one of the most awarded female artists in the country thanks to her massive talent and quality productions. Some of the awards she has won include; Zzina Awards Best Female Artist and most Stylish female artist award in the East Africa Fashion Awards 2021. These and other nominations add a milestone to her already glittering music career.

Pallaso
There is no doubt that Pallaso is currently one of the top trending artists in Uganda. Not only has his music gone viral, but he has also won numerous awards keeping him at the top.In the recently concluded Zzina Awards, Pallaso walked away with a number of accolades like Artist of The Year, Song of the Year and Best Male Artist. He was also among the few Ugandan artists nominated in the MAMA Awards that were halted due to COVID19. He also received a cash token for the most downloaded song by MTN CallerTunez.

Fik Fameica
Being one of the unique lugaflow rappers in the country era, the self-styled Fresh Boy is winning big. He was recognized as August's artist of the month by MTN, Zzina Awards' Best LugaFlow/Rap Song, Best LugaFlow/Rap Artist. His song 'Lock' was ranked the most played jam for the month of August, 2021 according to Radiyo Music Group.

Other artists who have received awards and recognition for their music include; Azawi, Liam Voice, An Known, Pia Pounds and Dre Cali among others.
