Zahara Clears the Air on Joining Amapiano Bandwagon

South African Afro-soul artist Zahara has set the record straight on her supposed new move to Amapiano genre.

All this came to the fore after a short clip about her recording ‘an Amapiano hit’ surfaced. Tagged "Ali boy x Zahara new piano track,” fans quickly thought that she was finally following a path that many South African artists have followed.

However, she set the record straight saying that all she wanted was to have fun and nothing serious at all.

“This is not an actual song, surely you guys know that, right? Ndidlale phi kanti,” iOL quotes her.

Zahara made a name as an Afro-soul artist and she has held on to this genre for years now. She has amassed millions of views from her songs and a legion of fans.

However, Amapiano remains an eye candy for South Africa.’ Just recently, the genre generated 1.2 billion views on TikTok alone in 2021. ‘Siyathandana’ by Cassper Nyovest made it to the top of the list.

It was his first Amapiano song after taking the shift from hip hop which solidified his musical career for close to a decade now. He featured Boohle and Abidoza in the track. Cassper ditched hip hop for Amapiano which he says that he feels safe in because it has no ‘gatekeepers’ like SA hip hop.

Focalistic is also among high flying South African artists who jumped into the genre and broke even.
