Celebrated Uganda rapper Mun G has downplayed local Ugandan awards stating that they are dead and meaningless.

Mun G is one of Uganda's top rappers who have made a name in the industry. Although he has released a number of songs, the 'Kunta Kinte' boss has not been nominated in any awards this year; therefore he feels they (local award organisers) no longer recognize real talent.

Addressing the media, Mun G said back in the day, local awards motivated artists to the point that they would work extremely hard for their music to be recognized and win accolades.

"Truth be told, awards in Uganda are dead and gone. Gone are the days when awards forced artists to go to studio to make a hit song. Lately artists are being embarrassed especially in these international awards like AFRIMAs.

"We have been ignored a lot and we are tired of complaining. The people who organize these awards are interested in what the people would like to see. It is just business,” he said.

Mun G advised awards organizers to always get an impartial committee, go on the ground and search for the real talent that befits different categories. This he says will help restore the respect and value that local awards had in the country.
