Lydia Jazmine Explains why Ugandan Artists have Failed to Shine on the International Level

Ugandan artist Lydia Jazmine has weighed in on why Ugandan music is yet to go international, claiming that it is all because of jealous and lack of unity among artists.

"I will be honest, as Ugandan artists, we don't wish well for others. Look at the popular figures in the music industry when they spot an upcoming young talent, they all fight to promote them," Lydia Jazmine told NBS After5 during a recent interview.

She gave an example of popular Nigerian talent manager and artist Don Jazzy who is managing a couple of artistes, but keeps pushing other artists outside his record label.

"Look at Don Jazzy, he manages many artists and a record label but you will see him post every artist that is coming up including the young talented comedians as long as they fall in the entertainment industry as long as it lifts their industry up," Jazmine added.

Lydia Jazmine is one of the few artists who have traveled and performed on stages outside Uganda and had a chance to collaborate with artists outside the country. Before the pandemic, the sultry singer revealed that she was to travel to Nigeria for some hot collaborations, but the same was put on hold.

"I was to go the moment they closed us down. I had my tickets booked by Nigerian artists to be there for two weeks just to record and do music," she concluded.
