Veteran Kenyan artist Mayonde has opened up on why she took a break from music in May 2019. Taking to Instagram, Mayonde said she took the break to figure out why she wasn’t enjoying or having fun doing music anymore.

According to her, she was frustrated for quite some time because she had been in the music game for over ten years, but felt that she was yet to break any ground, adding that she wasn’t making much money either.

“I had been praying about my next move, taken a hiatus from music mid-2019 to figure out why music wasn’t fun anymore, why I didn’t love what I was doing and why I was even pursuing this dream. After 10 years in the industry I still felt like I had barely broken ground, I wasn’t thriving and making much money, had a few gigs and media tours but for the most part it felt like music was just this thing that was taking and I wasn’t getting anything back. Now I know I lacked knowledge,” said Mayonde.

Announcing her comeback after taking studies in a music business school, Mayonde said the break had enabled her to acquire more knowledge on the business side of music.

“Now I know it’s just that I lacked knowledge. And one of the blessings of Perform was seeing myself as a business woman, understanding that there is the music and then there is the music business,” she added.
