Wizkid's Come Closer featuring Drake Earns Another Certification

Multiple award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter Wizkid has added yet another certification to his industrious music career. This is after his 2017 hit single 'Come Closer' featuring vocals from Canadian rapper Drake was recently certified Gold in the United Kingdom.

The Gold Certification came after the single sold 400,000 units in the UK. This is the second gold certification for Wizkid as a lead artist, with 'Come Closer' already having been certified Gold in the United States of America and Platinum in Canada.

The song that was released as the third single from Wizkid's third studio album, 'Sounds from the Other Side' had initially been certified silver in the UK. 'Come Closer' has helped Wizkid set a number of records in the Nigerian music industry.

After selling 500,000 units in the US by September 2020, Wizkid became the first African artist to be certified Gold (both) as a featured and lead artist in the United States.

'Come Closer' song was awarded AFRIMA 2017 Song of the Year on the night, Wizkid won two key awards, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year along with the Best Male West Africa award.

It remains the most-streamed Nigerian song ever and is the most successful song by an Afrobeats artist.

The 'Come Closer' official music video released on April 7, 2017, currently has over 106 million views on YouTube.
