The year is 2021 and yes, there is another Olamide album. It’s only been about eight months since the release of his critically acclaimed Carpe Diem album and now we’ve already moved past that to UY Scuti.

With 9 solo studio albums, 2 collaboration albums and one EP to his name, it can easily be unanimously agreed that Olamide is the most prolific Nigerian artiste over the past ten years, probably even more.

Since debuting in 2010 with the monster hit rap record, “Eni Duro”, Olamide has gone on to manage at least a hit single every other year. For someone who has this kind of track record with nothing more to prove, you would expect that he takes his time with new releases and projects but then he’s Olamide and music for him has now metamorphosed from being a profession to a lifestyle.

For UY Scuti, the expectations were high, maybe twice as much as it would have normally been thanks to Rock, the lead single of the album. Rock set the tone for the anticipation of the project and judging from just what listeners heard first off the project, UY Scuti was already been projected to be a hit album.

Rock introduced the mood of the album and gave listeners a hint of the musical path the album was likely to tow. The record became an instant hit, a classic Nigerian love ballad that would still be refreshingly played in many many years to come. This is one of not too many Olamide songs that you’d easily refer to as an evergreen record.

Introducing the album is Need For Speed, a song where a  soulful Olamide thinks out loud. He talks about the hustle and how much he is all about chasing his dreams and making more “paper”. The record sure does set the mood for the project which will span over the cause of 28 mins with mid-tempo songs; a fair share of love records. The second track off the project, “Jailer” confirms this with its message. Talented budding act, Jaywillz gave life to the record with a quite melodious hook with Olamide delivering okay verses. Not necessarily an outstanding record but the catchiness and melody of the record is just about enough to rank it higher in comparison with other records on the project.

On Julie, Olamide encompasses all the elements of a proper serenade. The record was made to make you pay attention to the lyrics and fix yourself in the moment. It’s almost impossible to listen to Julie without thinking about your love interest and as single, as you might be, this record would easily get you fantasizing about an imaginary lover. But just like every good thing, it was short, too short, ending abruptly just when you’re almost about to stray away and get soaked in the mushiness that it brought with it.

Rough Up featuring Layydoe, Want and PonPon featuring Fave are other records on the project which can be easily scored as okay with the featured artistes carrying the songs and giving it a feel that gives the records a more replay value.

Track number 8, Cup of Tea is another solid record off the project with a catchy hook, groovy beat, giving off that good vibes love feel just about enough to make you want to play again.

For the penultimate record on UY Scuti, Olamide linked up with his frequent collaborator and very good friend, Phyno for the potential hit tune, “Somebody”. An Olamide and Phyno collaboration will only birth a very likely outcome and that’s a hit record. But we’ll see how much this one performs in the coming weeks.

Olamide decides to sign off the album with ‘So Much More’ an ode, a dedication to all the women worldwide to be the best they can be. The message of the record is special but Olamide taking the reggae route on this one and other elements of the songs just about makes it a barely average tune. He sure couldn’t have chosen any other record on the project to sign off with.

Olamide’s UY Scuti is sure a good album to say the very least. All Good songs by the standards and a couple of solid tunes, over 10? I’d rate this one a solid 6.
