Ghanaian Afro-beats and Afro-pop musician Kobla Jnr has urged the young and upcoming artistes to be careful when dealing with music record labels to avoid being cornered.

According to the ‘Badman’ hitmaker, there have been several cases where new artistes get ‘super attractive’ deals from record labels which they rush into signing out of desperation without consulting. After a short while, they end up leaving the labels because of misunderstandings that arise, after reality has hit.

Speaking during an interview with Kokonsa Kester on YFM’s Weekend Rush, Kobla Jnr opines that new musicians can avoid making such mistakes by carefully reading through the contracts provided to them including the ‘small prints’ before they sign them.

“It’s a contract and once your signature is on there, it represents you so you should be very careful”, Kobla Jnr warned.

He added that with easy accessibility to the internet, artistes should always carry on researches as well as consult widely with other professionals on the terms of the contract so that alterations can be made in the event that they are not comfortable with the provided terms.

Kobla Jnr who is an independent artiste and is doing pretty well told artistes that while record labels do a lot of good to upcoming artistes, artistes can also flourish on their own; hence they should not be desperate to get signed to record labels.

“You can do it on your own. You just need a lot of dedication, hard work, and consistency like what I’m doing now”, He further urged.
