A couple of months ago, news spread across the Nigerian social media space that the legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti had been nominated to be inducted in the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A voting platform was created by Rock Hall for fans to vote who they feel deserves to be inducted for the year 2021. The voting was very much publicized on various social media platforms by top Nigerian artistes, Burna Boy, Wizkid et al.

Votes ended and Fela with a little over half a million votes emerged second in the polls just below Tina Turner, the American singer popularly referred to as the Queen of Rock n Roll.
As made obvious, the votes meant nothing to the hem of affairs of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as Fela’s name was missing much to the shock of many Nigerians who dedicate their time to the voting process.

Carole King, The Go-Go’s, Jay Z, Charley Patton, Randy Rhoads, Foo Fighters etc all made the list ahead of Fela despite having a lot fewer votes than the afrobeat legend.
The snub like you’d expect did not go down well with a lot of Nigerians who felt like they’ve wasted their time voting.
