Ghanaian Hiplife artist Odartei Milla Lamptey famously known in the entertainment circle as Gasmilla has given reasons why he thinks the dance craze ‘Azonto’ qualifies to be a music genre
Speaking in an interview with Y97.9FM Dryve of Your Lyfe show, the musician said” “We need to industrialise it and make it pay so that our next generation will add their vibes to it and make it better."

According to the self-acclaimed King of ‘Azonto,' Gasmilla, the dance has been evolving for some time now, and a time has come for it to be considered a music genre.
“Azonto has moved through all the phases of creating a genre. Hip-hop was all about dance back then and soon a sound was created for the dance and after that, there was a movement and a genre was created out of the dance move. So for me, Azonto has gone through all these phases and it is about time we made it into a genre”, he said.

For over three years, Gasmilla has been actively promoting the dance move to the world by wearing a T-shirt labeled ‘Azonto to the World.' Nonetheless, the musician believes that Ghanaians haven't been doing the same, thus rendering the dance move dormant.
“As typical Ghanaians, we tend to abandon things even before they reach their maturity stage. We are so creative that we create stuff and let go of them. But the same thing we created and let go off, Jamaicans have done otherwise. They have made dancehall and reggae”, He opined
