Speaking during an interview at Mseto East Africa radio show, Mejja explained that at the onset of his career, he had approached a renowned gospel artist at that time, and sought to do a collaboration.

To his dismay, the artist asked him for a down payment of Sh150,000 and another Sh150,000 for studio fee which he could not afford.

His explanation was in response to a question about the qualities he looks for before collaborating with an artist.

“Sana sana naangalia, kuna yule msanii akona talent lakini hana resources, na mi nishaikuwa kwa hiyo position yaani, ile time gospel ilikuwa imeshika manze, nili approchingi one of the gospel artists hiyo time, akaniambia Sh150,000 hiyo ni commitment Sh150,000 kubook studio,” he said.
