How and when did Mejja start his music career?
Mejja's music career started back in Primary school where he used to participate in singing competitions with his brother Wambugu. The two had formed a group called Ghetto Clan. Initially, he couldn't write his own songs, so he would borrow content, and sing it in school, and his schoolmates would give him encouragement.
Later on, Mejja was able to participate in a Celtel Talent Search in his province. At that time Celtel was seeking three contestants from each province. Mejja participated and was among the top three winners which qualified him to compete at the nationals. At the national level, he competed and won Ksh.20,000 for emerging as the first runners up.

Around that period, he was going through a hard time and so he sought greener pastures in Nairobi where he met Clement Rapudo Sijenyi better known as Clemo who is the music producer and co-founder of Calif Records.Clemo took him in and nurtured his talent.
In the year 2008, Mejja had his first breakthrough with his hit song ‘Jana Kuliendaje’, a jam that gave him an award at Kenya’s Chaguo la Teeniz. ‘Jana Kuliendaje’ was not his only hit, Mejja also released ‘Landlord’ in May 2011, which also soon became a fan favorite.
In 2014, Mejja , Kid Kora, and Madtraxx came together formed a Kenyan afro-pop/Genge group dubbed The Kansoul. The group dropped their first song ‘Dabo Tap’ later that year.
Following the release of Dabo Tap, the group got invites to perform at various top shows, went on tour in the UK, US, and Africa. They later proceeded to release top songs that include, ‘Utamu wa Life’, ‘No Woman No Party, ‘Tumekubali’ and many more.
In the year 2020, when the world was hit by the pandemic, Mejja blew up in many collaborations to a point where he was dubbed as the ‘King of Collabos’. In February 2021, Mejja released his first jam ‘Ulimi Yangu on his YouTube channel. The hit has been received well by his fans all over the world.
