Celebrated Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz has come out to explain the tribulations around the release of ‘Number One’; a song that propelled him to global success.

Speaking during a recent interview, the WCB boss stated that before releasing the video, he worked with Kenya’s stable Ogopa DJs.

By contracting local directors, Diamond would use about Sh300,000 on a video. However, the ‘Number One’ video forced him to fly the Ogopa DJ directors to South Africa.

The entire video shoot cost him about Sh3.3 million, something that almost plunged him into bankruptcy. Following the release, Diamond managed to earn a remix with Davido, shooting to the African charts immediately.

“Before doing the first video version of Number One at Ogopa DJs in Nairobi, my video cost used to be about US$ 3,000 (Sh326, 000) per video. With Number One, I went 10 times higher and spent US$30,000 (Sh3.3 million) or thereabout to fly Ogopa DJs video crew to Cape Town, South Africa, and shoot my video. The outcome was amazing, and that gave me the green light to approach Davido for a remix,” said Diamond.
