How Diamond Tried Buying Little-Known Record Label before Launching WCB

It has emerged that Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz intended to buy an existing record label in Tanzania before opting to launch Wasafi Classic records.

Speaking during a recent interview, Tanzanian producer Max Rioba revealed that Diamond intended to buy his MDB label.

The producer noted that he dismissed Diamond’s advances to acquire the label before he opted to get his establishment.

Rioba added that back then, Diamond used to hang out at the studio, hence the interest to purchase it.

"Kuna watu hawajui...MDB ndiyo iliyopelekea jina la WCB...Diamond ni rafiki wangu wa mda mrefu sana...Diamond alikuwa anachill sana studioni zangu… akaniambia hii MDB naitaka ni kwambia hii MDB ni ya kwangu...akatengeneza WCB…ilikuwa inspired by MDB,” said Rioba.

He added that the label is currently under the box, adding that he plans to revive it in the year.

The label is known for big names such as Rosa Ree, Goz B, among others.

Since launching WCB, the entity has emerged to be one of East Africa's most successful music establishments. The label has also diversified into media operations.

Besides Diamond, the label boasts of big names such as Mbosso, Lava Lava, Zuchu, and Rayvanny.
