Willow Smith will be trapped in a box, voluntarily for performance art for 24 hours at the Museum of Contemporary Arts (MOCA).

Willow is calling this a project about anxiety, something she has been struggling with since she was a child. She will be in the box with her boyfriend Tyler Cole, who has been working with her on her music and was one of the producers of her last album, ‘Willow’. While in the box they will go through the motions of anxiety; paranoia, rage, sadness, numbness, euphoria, strong interest, compassion and finally acceptance.

She explains that this idea came about from a session they were having in the studio and they must have been jamming and talking about anxiety. She says that she shared with her boyfriend about how it would be interesting to act out the whole cycle of anxiety. She does not want to call this an act of awareness because she is not too sure if it will be but really wants to keep it as sharing the motions of anxiety.

In the box, there will be nothing but a clean canvas where Willow and Tyler will paint and write words of affirmation. I must admit, this is a brave act for someone with anxiety. The 24 hours are still counting and will end on Thursday 9:00pm their time.
