We played a little catch up with Uganda's Dancehall sensation Vyper Ranking. He served us his journey in the industry and future plans which is extremely exciting.
Good Afternoon and welcome. What’s for lunch?
Good afternoon, I am fasting.
Which 3 words describe Vyper Ranking?
Humble, Aggressive, Respectful.
Tell us about your life before the music and what inspired you to get into music…
I did refrigeration and spray painting to earn a living. I was inspired by Jamaican Artists and I used to listen to much of their music, freestyle and all that, hence doing what they do.
Which musician(s) was your greatest inspiration when you started?
Here in Uganda Peter Miles and Cindy Sanyu. Abroad Shaba Ranking, Beenie Man and Busy Signal.
For how long have you been in this music journey?
Well, this is my third year.
How would you describe your style of music?
I'm versatile but I specialized mainly in RaggaDancehall and Reggae.
Tell us about your latest jam ‘Tebimala’ with Cindy Sanyu. How did you two meet?
We met on a show in Soroti and I told her about my desire to work with her.
What inspires your lyrics when you write your music?
I'm inspired by various things in the society and sometimes the vibe of the beat can drive me to write my lyrics.
Where do you want to be musically in the next 5 years?
I want to represent Uganda and Africa Musically at Large in the whole world.

If you weren't doing music, what other career path would you choose?
If wasn't doing music maybe I would be a radio or Tv presenter.
Who is your hero?
My mum.
If you could change one thing in the UG music industry, what would it be?
Hahaha, this one is a tough one but if given a chance I would change the way this industry welcomes new Artists. For my case I think it takes a lot for a new Artist to penetrate.
