EXCLUSIVE: The 4th Kenyan App To Hit 1M Installs on Google Play Store

The Kenyan music app for African music, Mdundo, takes fourth place on the most installed Kenyan apps after My Safaricom, Branch and Tuko apps.

The Mdundo music app has hit 1 million installs since its official launch in February 2016. Mdundo first launched in Kenya but has grown a significantly presence in 7 African countries as well as in the diaspora.

The Mdundo app was designed with African listening habits in mind allowing offline streaming of African biggest musicians, playlists and DJ mixes. The listeners can follow their favourite artists and playlists for updates and new releases and the app also allows users to enjoy daily updated playlists. To accommodate most handsets and limit data usage the app only takes 2.6 Mbs storage space.

Mdundo CEO, Martin Nielsen says: “We’ve been very impressed about the popularity of our android app since we launched it last year. Our users like the offline functionality and the ability to engage and share music with Facebook friends. We are streaming millions of songs every month and even though our website is still bigger than our app we do see a shift towards the app. We constantly update and improve our app to deliver a unique music experience to our customers and we are very happy that so many people like and install our app - this is a great milestone for us and African music."

The Mdundo app is rated with 4.2 of 5 stars in playstore and current customers highlights that the app is “easy to use” as well as the app having “great music”. One user comments: "It's cool for those who love to listen to music because you can listen to your favourite musicoffline while doing other stuff on your phone."

With ongoing updates to improve the usability, variety of content and its design in the coming months, Mdundo looks forward to hitting new markets in Africa and beyond.
