UGANDA: The 6th Edition of DOADOA Festival to Host Mdundo Awards Uganda 2017
3 May 2017
The 6th EDITION of DOADOA Festival will be taking place on 3rd to 6th May, 2017 in Uganda Museum, Kampala Uganda. The Mdundo Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday 6th May, the fourth day of the DOADOA Festival.
DOADOA is the East African Performing Arts Market that provides a platform for professional networking and joint learning, bringing together various stakeholders and link people, organizations, businesses, knowledge and technology with a view to create demand and develop a market for the performing arts and unlock the potential of the East African creative industry, making it an important factor for economic, social and cultural development throughout the region.
“Six years down the road – DOADOA continues to grow stronger and more relevant in connecting performing artists and professionals within East Africa and around the world, but also directly feeding into the established East Africa Community’s common market protocol for the cultural and creative industries. As a market, DOADOA emphasises the role of performing arts in a sustainable integration of economic activity across the region that accelerates economic growth, contributes to individual well-being and cuts across to impact other sectors of development.” Bayimba International Festival Director, Faisal explains.
According to Faisal, DOADOA is still a young market. Advocating for a conducive environment, regulatory framework and effective public-private partnerships for the advancement and promotion of the performing arts in East Africa as a new chapter we are working towards as well.
Over the four days the festival is happening, there will be two segments running i.e. a day programme with conferences, workshops, live recording studios for collaborations, exhibitions, conversations, day showcases and speed networking sessions all at the Uganda Museum.
This year, DOADOA has partnered with Ketebul Music, PHAT, Caravan Records, Mdundo, Busara Promotions among others. These brands will be involved in the various panel discussions, showcases and workshops. Mdundo’s CEO, Martin Nielsen, is among the panelists at the Festival. The presentation of Mdundo Awards for Uganda is set to take place on the last day of the festival.
“I'm very excited to be at the DOADOA festival this year. I have never attended before but generally I'm a big fan of Uganda and I am looking very much forward to connecting with the industry and discussing music distribution in Uganda,” says Martin Nielsen, CEO of Mdundo Ltd. “I expect a lot of good conversations and good music. I am really happy that we could do Mdundo Awards this year in Uganda. Uganda is one of our fastest growing markets and the DOADOA festival has been extremely supportive. There is no better partner for us to kick off Mdundo Awards in Uganda.” he adds.
