Streaming to become one of the newest trends in which people consume music in East Africa - Mdundo.com to launch new website for it.

Music services in East Africa have been focused on download in the past years, however recent numbers from the music service, Mdundo, shows that streaming is now accounting for 10% of music consumption, up from less than 2% in March 2016.

“Streaming makes it easier for customers to listen to different kinds of music before they decide which songs to download to their device. We are experiencing a growing number of WIFI users who actually prefer streaming to download” Mdundo’s CEO, Martin Nielsen explains.

Downloading is still the prefered way to consume music, it is cheaper in data bundles and easier with low-end mobile devices and bad data connection. However, streaming makes it easier for customers to listen and discover music before deciding what to download to their phone.

Mdundo’s launched a new website in March to make the streaming experience better, this makes it possible to stream full playlists from the office, at home or on the go free of charge for those with a good internet connection.

Head of music at Mdundo, Shyqo Koinange, elaborates “The trend is very positive for our musicians. The customers are more willing to discover new sounds, genres and artists and it make it easier for musicians who don’t get radio or TV airplay to still grow their fan base on Mdundo”

Mdundo is aiming to continuously improve its service to accommodate artists and customers better and grow the music industry. Mdundo’s objective is to make music easily and legally available in Africa.
