Batile Alake was said to have been born in 1935. She is credited as a creator of Waka music an Islamic influenced traditional Yoruba music style, and was the first professional Waka singer to record an album. Batile Alake started out as a back up singer of an alasalatu group before leaving to form her own band. She was most active during the 1950s and ‘60s even though she continued making music well into the ‘80s. Batile Alake died in her home in Ijebu Igbo in 2013.View more
