KENYA: 5 Important Things You Did Not Know About the New #AirtelTRACEStar Mentor Keri Hilson

Apart from being one of the hottest women in R&B music today, there are still a few things you did not know about the beautifully talented, Keri Hilson.

And seeing as she’s set to be the mentor for the 2016 edition of the Airtel TRACE Star competition, we thought it was important to let you know some of these things. After all they say you should always know who you’re getting in bed with.

Started her Career at 14-Years Old

Most people only hope to have puberty figured out at the tender age of 14, meanwhile this sultry songstress seems to have had the whole of her life figured out at that age.

Keri started her music career in her early youth spending most of her youth working with producer Anthony Dent as a songwriter and background vocalist for several R&B and Hip hop stars.

And by the age of 14, she secured her first recording deal joining girl group D'Signe, who later disbanded.

And even after her band went their separate ways, she still carried on with her dream of music and joined a song writing team called The Clutch.

She’s Written Songs For America’s Top Female R&B Singers

Other than being known for singing alongside some of the top artist in America, the likes of Kanye West and NeYo in ‘Knock You Down’ and Lil Wayne in ‘Turning Me On’, Ms. Keri Hilson has also written songs for some of the most famous R&B and Pop stars out there.

 The likes of Britney Spear, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige have all gotten lyrics from the songstress while she was still working as part of ‘The Clutch’.

There’s clearly a lot one can learn from her in terms of writing a hit record.

She’s a Prolific Award Winner

She made her debut in 2006 featuring in Timbaland’s hit record ‘The Way I Are’ before going on to do her own solo thing.

Since then there’s been no looking back for Ms Keri who went on to win several awards for her music.

BET Award for ‘Best New Artist’ in 2009 and an NAACP ‘Image Award for Outstanding New Artist’ in 2010. Before that she had won the Danish Music Award for ‘International Hit of the Year’ in 2008 for ‘The Way I Are’ (Timbaland vs. Nephew), the Soul Train Music Award for ‘Best Collaboration’ of 2009 with her hit song Knock You Down as well as being crowned the ‘Best New Artist’ of 2009.

This as well as a number of Grammy Award nominations under her belt, is a clear testament of her hard work and determination to persue her passion of music.

She’s Multitalented

Also she’s not only famed for her beautiful singing voice but has also featured in a couple of motion pictures.

In 2012 she made her acting debut in the popular romantic comedy film ‘Think Like a Man’. This opened the door for her to feature in other films including ‘Riddick’ in 2013 and also featured in Kevin Hart’s ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’ reality-comedy.

Making Her Comeback After 5 Years Away From the Game

And this year after taking a long hiatus from her music career, Keri Hilson is set to make her comeback which is already drumming up conversations on different blogs in the US.

One thing we’ve seen from artists throughout the years is that at one point or another they take a break and clearly as aspiring artists you could learn a lot from this year’s Airtel TRACE Music Star mentor, on how to make a successful comeback.
