The Purple Reign comes to a Tragic End, Artist Prince Dies Aged 57

Music icon Prince has died at the age of 57.

A music icon, a creative genius, a sex symbol (to date) and a bonafide rebel, Prince (or the artist formerly known as Prince as he was once refered) earned his legendary status in the ‘80s with hit records such as "Kiss" and "Purple Rain".

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning," his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement confirming the legend had fallen.

The 57-year-old singer was found unresponsive in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota

Paramedics tried to perform CPR but were unable to revive him, the sheriff said. He was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m., less than 30 minutes after sheriff's deputies responded to a medical call at the scene.

The authorities are now investigating his death with an autopsy scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Earlier this month, Prince made headlines after he cancelled two of his performances hours before he was set to go on stage for health reasons (at the time it was reported he had the flu).

Right after his death, condolence messages outpoured on Twitter from fans, artist and big names alike. Fans are still camped outside his Paisley Park home, mourning the singer’s untimely death.

A seven time Grammy award winner, Prince will forever be remembered for his great song writing skills and performances.
