KENYA: Eric Wainaina's Amazingly Successful Musical 'Tinga Tinga Tales' Gets Extended Due to Public Demand
19 April 2016
Written and directed by the creator of the original animation series Claudia Lloyd, produced by Sheba Hirst and musical director Eric Wainaina; Tinga Tinga Tales the Musical has left many wowed and entertained by its witty script and awesome music.
In the musical, acclaimed actor and media personality John Sibi Okumu plays the lion. The musical’s lead role is joined by other stellar acts including: Iddi Achieng (Hippo), Elsafan Njora (Tortoise), Elton John (Chameleone), Eric Wainaina (Monkey) and Phy (Giraffe), among others and a house band.
Studio Propolis, the amazing design duo alongside Kiko Romeo’s prodigious Ann McCreath have brought the well-loved characters to life in an explosion of carnival colours and design.
“The musical could very well be as big a hit for Eric as was his Mo Faya which went all the way to New York City and beyond. It’s got a strong cast including Eric Wainaina himself together with John Sibi-Okumu (who directed Mo Faya) and Iddi Achieng among others. Claudia Lloyd directs while Mkamzee Mwatela choreographs and Kiko Romeo is in charge of costuming.” – Business Daily
