NIGERIA: Davido Consulted With Michael Jackson's Lawyer Before Signing Sony Deal

It is one of the biggest news this year, Davido’s signing to Sony Music Entertainment is not only monumental to the Nigerian hit maker but for other African artists as well.

While announcing the deal Sony said that it was part of their larger plan to penetrate the African market.

Now further details of the signing have emerged including the big names behind brokering the deal and some of the requirements that the Gobe singer has to meet.

With the singer set to drop his sophomore studio album this year reports have it that the deal will require Davido to release two albums to be distributed globally by Sony.

However the exact duration which the contract will last still remains unclear but it is said to span more than a year.

Davido will retain the right to his music and performances, while Sony will be publishing and distributing to the international market.

The deal was brokered by Efe Ogbeni, an executive with Sony/ATV who is also going to be the Executive producer for Davido’s upcoming album.

It has also been revealed that before signing, Davido sought the counsel of renowned entertainment lawyer, Joel Katz.

Joel Katz has in the past represented top global celebrities including James Brown, Ludacris, Justin Timberlake and brands like the Grammys, he is also responsible for the late Michael Jackson‘s estate.

Well if that isn’t a sign that Davido has really made it into the big time, I don’t know what is.

Meanwhile a new video of the signing has revealed that Davido went into quite the shopping spree before heading to the Sony Music Entertainment offices in New York.
