In the spirit of throwback Thursday allow me to your mind on a trip in time, back to the early 2000s when the music industry in Kenya was sprouting and real talent was not a thing you’d only imagine but the order of the day.
Yes there were a lot of talented artists back then and one (or rather two) of them was boy band XYZee, comprised of brothers Alex and Santos.
And their thing as with many aritsts in this period was Kapuka music. Music for the party that always managed to lighten the mood.
They were the real deal, talented song writers and they looked the part too. Always swaged out in the most stylish and upbeat clothing that you would only see some of the American artists like Usher Raymond or Tyrese wearing in their music videos.
But I digress. Now back to their music, XYZee could switch it up easily from emotional tear jerking love songs like ‘Juu Yako’…
…to epic party songs like ‘Kinyama’, ‘Tafuta’, ‘Panda’ and many more.
They really kept us dancing back then. Unfortunately the group called it quits musically however one of the brothers Alex just couldn’t stay away for long reinventing and relaunching himself as ‘Lexx Kinyua’ and did a few songs by himself before going silent once more, this time presumably for good.
Now the two are supposedly living life as ordinary Kenyans and thriving, but for us the lovers of good music we can't help but miss their good music.
