KENYA: Meet the Next Obama Who Has Been Elected President in a Foreign Country
22 February 2016

It’s not just US President Barack Obama, we might not be a super power or even a rich country but Kenya has over the years proven that we have a resource that other countries (including the US) simply can’t get enough of, our people.
Many Kenyans going abroad have gotten leadership positions in the countries they’ve gone to. Elizabeth Kang’ethe recently won the Mayoral seat in London and now Bradley Opere a student at the University of North Carolina (UNC) was also recently elected student body president, which is still a big deal seeing as more than 50% of the student body gave him his vote.
Bradley is currently pursuing a double major in business and political science at UNC. He admits that he is a fan of politics, but initially shied away from participating in anything linked to this interest.
According to the Dean Chris Bradford of the African Leadership Academy (ALA), who has worked closely with him, Bradley has all the qualities you’d look for in a leader. Surprisingly he was also Chair of the ALA student government during his time there.

“As Dean, I had the opportunity to work closely with Bradley during his time as Chair of the ALA student government, and he left a powerful impression. I’m thrilled to see him continue to challenge himself at UNC to lead diverse communities and unite people from different backgrounds with a common purpose. I have no doubt that he will be an exceptional student body President at UNC-Chapel Hill”, adds Chris Bradford.
While in Kenya Opere attended Sunshine Secondary School in Nairobi between 2007 and 2010 where he was also student president.
